Gotye原名Wouter De Backer ，出生于1980年5月21日，比利时裔澳大利亚人，乐器家、唱作人。
代表作是《Somebody That I Used to Know》(2012年Billboard年度单曲榜第一)。
Gotye在1980年出生于比利时的Bruges，在他两岁的时候，全家移居到了澳大利亚墨尔本。在他上学时，他的父母选择Walter作为Gotye的名字。
在很小的时候，Gotye就表现出了对音乐的热情，开始学习各种乐器，尤其喜欢钢琴还有鼓。在他少年时期，Gotye和他的3个高中好友组成了乐队Downstares，Gotye是乐队的主要创作人，他们的音乐反应出Gotye喜欢的音乐家Depeche Mode和Kate Bush对他的影响。
在高中毕业后，Downstares的成员开始四处分离。在2001年，Gotye的父母搬家，在Victoria的Montmorency留下一座房子以便让Gotye完成学业。Gotye的两个朋友住了进来，这座房子也被亲切的称为"The Frat House"，Gotye的朋友时常的会来这座房子拜访或者留宿，终于，Gotye又可以继续他们的音乐梦想了。Gotye的音乐之梦始于他收到的一堆录音带--他的一个老邻居的已经去世了的太太，在这些年中录制的他们乐队的排练时的录音带。
2001年，Gotye录制了第一个音轨，03年，发行了略显稚嫩的第一张专辑《Boardface》。在06年，Gotye发行了他的第二张专辑《Like Drawing Blood》，经历成长的Gotye开始得到收获，专辑和单曲都取得了不错的成绩，为他的第三张专辑《Making Mirrors》的大获成功做好了铺垫。第三张专辑《Making Mirrors》发行于2011年，专辑中与新西兰歌手Kimbra Johnson合作的单曲《Somebody That I Used to Know》在欧美各国取得优异的成绩，在多国的单曲榜登顶。该单曲在澳大利亚单曲榜上意外的取得了8周冠军的成绩，成为自1997年野人花园的"Truly Madly Deeply"后占领榜首最长的单曲。它在单曲榜登顶过的欧洲国家有:比利时的Flanders区(荷兰语大区)，荷兰，德国，奥地利，爱尔兰及英国。在Kimbra的祖国新西兰，该单曲同样成功登顶。在波兰，该单曲占领榜首长达18周，成为波兰单曲榜史上夺得榜首位置时间最长的单曲。《Somebody That I Used to Know》成为美国Billboard榜上有史以来第一首同时在Dance/Club Play Songs，Dance/Mix Show Airplay，Alternative Songs，Hot 100四个榜中同时夺冠的单曲。这使Gotye打破23年以来，独立制作人登顶时间最长的记录。
